Wingate University Football team is on the rise this upcoming 2019-2020 season. The team’s new motto is one word–“EAT.” This translates to Effort, Attitude & Toughness. Coach Reich stands by that motto by all means necessary and the team is behind him 100%.
Team captains are senior Robbie Wallace (linebacker), sophomore Shaw Crocker, and Connor Baroniunas (offensive linemen).
“There’s many more teammates that contribute vocally as head coach,” Coach Joe Reich said.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 9-4 record from last season.
While the team lost major players, it also gained some new players and replaced valuable seniors with upcoming role players to take their spot.
“It’s not easy having a great defense that are filled with senior players,” said Coach Rashaan Jordan. “They have been there awhile and I trust them and that’s the biggest thing.”
What he means by this is that they are “veterans guys” who knows the defense well.
Coach Jordan is going into his 13th year of being the Defensive Coordinator of Defense. Jordan and Reich have known each other for over 19 years and have say they an amazing relationship.
The Bulldogs have one goal – to win SAC conference championship.
They won the 2017-2018 season SAC championship, but fell short to Lenoir Rhyne in the 2019 season.
This year, the Bulldogs have gained confidence and say they are ready to make it to the National Championship after they take care of business by winning the SAC Conference.
The Bulldogs played against Johnson C. Smith University on September 5th.
The Bulldogs came away with a 47-7 win.
Coach Reich told his team, “There’s more to do, don’t get complacent there’s a long season ahead of us.”
On Saturday, September 14th the Bulldogs will play Fayetteville State with kickoff set for 7pm.
