Michael O’Neill
Sports Editor

Communication Major
Class of 2023

I am a native of Charlotte, NC, and a rising senior at Wingate University studying Communication (with a concentration in Sports Media). I’m also a news/sports writer for The Enquirer Journal in Monroe. The E-J is one of North Carolina’s oldest newspapers who will celebrate 150 years in 2023 and I’ve been on staff with them for almost four years. I started there as a intern after I graduated high school and worked my way up to being one of the staff writers.

Another fun fact about me is that my nickname is “Mr. Union County” because of my love and dedication to support all Union County High School sports teams. I have lived in Union County, North Carolina for 17 years. Someone coined me that name seven years ago and it was one of the most significant moments of my life that got me into journalism.

Emily Werner
Staff Writer
Communication & Public Relations Major
Class of 2023

This is Emily Weston’s second semester writing for the Triangle. Her stories typically have nothing to do with Wingate at all, but she’ll occasionally do a profile of a professor or a story about a common complaint around campus. When she’s not in class, you can typically find her working in the library.
In her free time, Emily consumes boatloads of media. From music, to movies, to random YouTube videos, she’s always watching or listening to something. She loves animals and has three dogs, two cats, a veiled chameleon and a pictus gecko. Emily is passionate about the things she loves and even more so about the things she hates. Her goal in life is to become a successful comedy screenwriter.
