The International Programs Office revealed the 2026 destinations for Wingate’s annual W’international program during a special event Oct. 21 at Austin Auditorium, announcing that some lucky Bulldogs will have a chance to study in Switzerland, Peru, Mexico or The Netherlands next May.

W’International is a 10-day study abroad program led by faculty that gives students the chance to explore new cultures, learn about life in different countries and earn academic credit while traveling as a group with a Wingate professor.

Wingate students traveled to Switzerland in 2024.

The travel dates for the four trips will fall between May 9-30, with more specific dates to be announced. The classes that will be taught along with each trip include “Switzerland Unfiltered: A Journey into Alpine Ecotourism,” “Strength in the Shadows: Resilience and Resistance in The Netherlands” and “Care Across Cultures: A Rural Health Journey,” which will feature separate trips to Mexico and Peru.

Last academic year, the university sent students to Germany, Denmark and Costa Rica as part of the program. Each trip offered hands-on experiences designed for various academic interests, from environmental studies to global business and cultural history.

To join the 2026 program, juniors receive priority consideration in the application process, but must have at least a 2.5 grade-point average and earn a passing grade in the W’International seminar prior to going. If spots are open after all eligible juniors are chosen, then the process will open up to sophomores and freshmen. Eligible students must have completed one semester at Wingate before their semester of participation. Seniors and graduate students are not eligible for W’International.

The typical cost is around $2,500, and financial aid and scholarships are available through the International Programs Office. Applications will be open for all Wingate students classified as juniors until Nov. 5. The Wingate International House will host informational events on the trips for students on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.

Moira Rogers, executive director of global engagement at Wingate, encouraged students to take advantage of this opportunity. “Study abroad because comfort zones don’t make global leaders; adventure does,” Rogers said. “It’s not just a trip, it enhances your résumé with culture, courage, and confidence. Trade your classroom for the world and come back fluent in success.”

“The study abroad experience allows students to broaden their perspectives and connect what they learn in the classroom to the wider world. It’s one of the most memorable and transformative opportunities available at Wingate.”
