Wingate University officials have made major departmental location changes in the Stegall Administration and Crowder Welcome Center buildings, leaving students confused as to where they should go for various services.
Crowder has “become a hub for all things student-facing,” according to Jill Kay, Wingate’s director of marketing and communications. “The University wanted to provide one place for students to get help with everything, from financial aid, to building a resume, to academic records.”
With the Marketing department relocated to the first floor of Stegall, the suite at the back of Crowder now conveniently houses Financial Aid, Bulldog Central, Career Services and the Registrar’s Office.
Sharing first-floor space with Marketing in Stegall is the Office of Advancement. The second floor now houses payroll/controller services, budgeting, cashier/assets and accounts payable. Human Resources is located on the garden level of Stegall.
Bulldog Central and Financial Aid sent a mass email out to students informing them of their location change on Jan. 18, but the email didn’t mention the new locations of the other departments and services that students constantly access.
Senior English major Genesis Hepburn said that she didn’t find a problem with where everything was located in the past. While Hepburn saw the email that was sent out to students, she believes that “they could have done a better job letting the students know about the change.”
Another senior English major, Autumn Kennedy, agreed that it “could have been handled better,” with students having more of a heads up. She added, however, that “it’s nice to have them all located in the same area, rather than totally scattering them.”
“We are very happy in the new space,” Kay says, “and we are slowly getting settled in.”
Students are encouraged to reach out to each department, respectively, if they have any questions.
