If you could change one thing about Wingate University, what would it be and why?

The Triangle staff set out across campus on March 19 with a simple question for Wingate students:

If you could change one thing about Wingate University, what would it be and why?

TYJE’LIN JONES
Junior Communication major
Piedmont, S.C.

“One thing I would like to change is the way the food is made in the caf. I wish there were more options other than having the specific options like every day. I would prefer for it to be more inclusive.”

JOSH PATTERSON
Junior Exercise Science major
Winston-Salem, N.C.

“Variety within The Klondike. The food choices there can get old and plain.”

NEARCHOS RIZOS
Sophomore Exercise Science major
Edessa, Greece

“I would have better food options to choose from if I could change one thing about Wingate University by having better quality food, making sure the food is cooked properly each time and have the dining facilities open later.”

ANUOLUWAPO ONIPEDE
Sophomore Psychology major
Lawrenceville, Ga.

“I would change how much they charge international students to go here and to stay over breaks, mostly because this school has more international students on campus than anyone else.”

HADLEY OSBORNE
Freshman Nursing major
Greensboro, N.C.

“I wish sports teams weren’t so isolated during the season. Spending time with athletes from other sports is a great way to meet new people and learn about different cultures. … A team bonding event where different sports teams come together would be amazing. Maybe a practice swap for a day; it would be fun and help us appreciate each other’s sports.” (Osborne is on the Wingate swim team)

TYLER HULBERT
Freshman Exercise Science major
Washington, Pa.

“Parking, because I have gotten too many parking tickets due to the lack of parking that the school has to offer students—and this is coming from someone who lives on campus.”

LARA CASTANO
Sophomore Communication major
Barcelona, Spain.

“If I could change one thing about Wingate, it would be transportation. We need a bus going from here to Charlotte, because what about the international students that don’t have a car and want to go.”

ASHYIA HIGGINS
Junior Biochemistry major
California, Md.

“I would say the dining hall food because it is not the best.”

LOGAN HALL
Junior International Business major
Williamsport, Pa.

“If I could change one thing about Wingate, it would be the location. Even though I have my own car, I see my teammates on the cross country team with the need to drive to buy food, get to training locations and to buy anything they need. Most students I know at Wingate are international students who do not have a car to drive themselves around. Since there are no buses or trains nearby, their only reliable source of transportation is either friends or paying for taxis or Ubers.”

SARAH THOMAS
Junior Elementary Education major
Waxhaw, N.C.

“I think something I would change would be more meal options for meal swipes because I eat the same thing every day and it honestly gets boring.”

ABENEZER NEGUSIE
Freshman Exercise Science major
Winston-Salem, N.C.

“The schedule for the cafeteria because I feel that as students we get hungry a lot, and we are hungry throughout the day. Closing the cafeteria at 8 p.m. is not a good idea, considering places like the gym close at 11 p.m.”

MAX MITCHO
Freshman Management major
Tulsa, Okla.

“One thing about Wingate University that I would change would be the location of the campus. Everything is pretty far from school, if I wanted to go get food it could sometimes be a 15-30 minute drive and that’s not accounting the time it takes to get back. Matthews would be a better location, it’s closer to everything there are more food stores and more things to do.”

KASHE SMITH
Freshman Business major
Charlotte, N.C.

“The amount of funding they put into track because it’s like we get less than the rest of the sports.”
