Avery Hill

Avery Hill, a Marshville, N.C., native, is double majoring in communication with a focus on journalism and educational studies with a focus on humanities. He has a passion for writing in all forms, with a particular interest in news writing. After graduation, Hill plans to work for a local newspaper. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and setting up fish tanks.

Emarie Tucker is a senior from Charlotte, N.C., who enjoys writing about real-life events and issues, including research papers. In her free time, she likes to play pickleball, produce music and spend time with family and friends.

Savannah Phillips

Savannah Phillips has been writing for the Triangle ever since her freshman year and has a passion for the written word! She is the editor for Counterpoint, is a student worker for the Marketing department, and has recently become a Campus Involvement Assistant. When she’s not writing or reading, you can find Savannah watching her favorite movies or listening to music!

Cayden has been a Charlotte, NC, native all of his life and is a huge sports fan. He has hopes of becoming a play-by-play commentator one day, and he already does some of that on the side in his free time. Cayden also loves writing about sports and is very excited to join the Triangle. Outside of school, he balances a job, hanging out with friends and family, spoiling his dog and cat, listening to every genre of music, and thinking he is good at video games.

Hayleigh is a junior set to graduate in 2026. Growing up, she always loved writing- whether it was about something that happened or creating stories herself. It didn’t matter, as long as she could write. In her free time, Hayleigh likes to read, watch movies and shows, and spend time with her family!

Peyton Webb found her passion for journalistic writing in high school when she joined yearbook her freshman year. After graduation, she plans to teach english and yearbook at a high school level. Outside of school, she loves going to concerts and spending time with her friends and family.

Anna Martin is a senior from Lititz, PA and a member of the cross country and track teams at Wingate. Outside of her schedule as a student-athlete, she enjoys writing, cooking and baking, and traveling. Anna spent her summer as an intern reporter at WGAL News 8, an NBC affiliate broadcast station in Lancaster, PA. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career as a feature and breaking news reporter.

Fernanda Castillo is a senior and member of the women’s tennis team at Wingate. Originally from Mexico, she has a passion for public relations and social media, especially within the sports industry. She enjoys using writing to share stories about athletes and sports media, and has developed a strong interest in news writing through her experiences at Wingate.

Silas Almond is a freshman from Albemarle, N.C. He is excited to write for The Triangle as his first experience with news writing. Silas’s major is currently undecided, but he is likely going to major in communication with a focus on journalism. In Silas’s free time, he enjoys playing video games, TTRPGs and guitar. 


Kevin Perla

Kevin Perla is a freshman set to graduate in 2029. He was born in Honduras but lives in Durham NC. He has always loved journalism and has interned for several news media outlets that focuses on the Latino community. Kevin is excited to write and learn more. After graduation Kevin wants to become an Immigration Attorney and a Political Analyst.

Arantxa Taberneiro was born and raised in Venezuela, where she fell in love with sports through horseback riding at a young age. Writing has always been a way of expressing herself—especially through poetry and rhythm. She is passionate about public relations and loves seeing how stories, sports, and creativity can help brands and communities grow. She is fascinated by the world of sports, fashion, and entertainment, and she enjoys sharing what’s happening behind the scenes in these fields.

Brice Colter is from Columbia, S.C. and writing has always been a passion for him. He wrote his first unpublished short novel at the age of 11. Brice is an athlete at heart and he enjoys working with people and spending time in nature.
