Flu Shots at Wingate

Staff Writer: Julia Berardelli

At Wingate’s Health Center, flu shots are available 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Making an appointment is recommended to reduce wait time, but drop-ins are allowed. To schedule an appointment for the flu shot, call the Health Center at 704-233-8102. While most insurance will cover 100% of the cost of the flu shot, if the Health Center is unable to bill your insurance, the shot will cost $23 (if you are a Wingate student, this would be charged to your student account).

Getting the flu shot reduces the severity of flu symptoms if one does get sick, and it prevents the virus from spreading. Due to the prevalence of COVID-19 this year, the Health Center is recommending even more strongly that everyone be vaccinated against the flu. If one has both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time, this has the potential to cause serious illness. It is recommended to get the flu shot before flu season starts, which can be as early as October or as late as December.

The Health Center has been hosting pop-up flu shot events all over campus including at the cafeteria, outside Chick-Fil-A and on the Promenade; they have even offered “drive-thru” flu shots behind the Batte Center. If you hear about another one of these events in the future, all you have to do is bring your insurance card and show up to receive the shot.
